<p>Stand with your legs slightly apart and hold a dumbbell in each hand at shoulder level with your elbows bent. Contract your abdomen, straighten your back then press the weights overhead by extending your arms. Slowly lower back to the starting position.</p>

<p>Yoga is an ancient Indian practice which has benefitted millions in the attainment of a healthy body and mind. Yoga is based on the breath retention or pranayam and muscular stretching known as asana. There are many asnas and pranayam through which one can attain the ultimate joy and bliss.</p>
<p>Yoga poses can also be used to improve mental focus and concentration thereby to attain the success. There are several such poses. Let us discuss them one by one.</p>
<h4>Sarvangasana</h4>
<p>In this asana, the entire body is balanced on the shoulders while your legs are up in the air. Remain in this pose for some seconds and then slowly increase the time duration. Come back while exhaling slowly back to the floor. The increased blood flow to the head improves the focus and concentration of your mind.</p>
<h4>Pranayam</h4>
<p>In this the mind concentrates on the breathing inside, retention and then exhale outside. This increases the awareness of mind and make it focus better and more. One can go for the two different types namely:</p>
<ul>
<li><b>Sama vritti</b></li>
</ul>
<p>In this pranayam the breath is taken inside through both the nostrils and then released after some retention by them again.</p>
<ul>
<li><b>Nadi shodhan</b></li>
</ul>
<p>In this pranayam the breath is taken inside alternatively by one nostril at a time and released back by the other.</p>
<h4>Meditation</h4>
<p>Sit in sukhasana or relaxed position on the floor and close your eyes while concentrating only on your breath at the tip of your nostrils. Observe your thoughts and do not interfere or try to stop them anyway. Just observe them. This helps to calm down your mind and get relaxed and in this state it will be able to focus and concentrate more.</p>
<h4>Surya namaskara</h4>
<p>Surya namaskar is the combination of twelve yoga poses done in a sequence. Every pose has its own mantra and all the twelve poses and mantras are celebrations of divinity of the sun. these poses help to calm down the mind and relieve the tensions from it thus helping it to focus better and concentrate more.</p>
<h4>Vrikshasana</h4>
<p>In this pose you have to stand like a tree where you inhale and join your hands above your head and then after retaining the pose for few seconds you bring back to the original standing position while exhaling your breath. This asana is extremely effective in enhancing memory and concentration.</p>
<h4>Dhanurasana</h4>
<p>In this asana, lie on the stomach and slowly hold your legs with your hands while making a bow position of your body. Inhale and life the knees such that the entire body weight falls on the abdomen. Retain for couple of seconds and then exhale and come back to the original position. This asana helps in improving the concentration.</p>
<h4>Ushtrasana</h4>
<p>You begin by sitting on your knees with the calves of the legs flat on the floor. Hold your right ankle with your right hand and the left ankle with the left hand and stretch as much as you can. Control the breath while stretching. Now releasing the breath slowly, come back to the initial position. This asna helps to improve the balancing and thus your mind learns to improve in concentrating.</p>

<p>Stand straight with the arms high above the head, and bend your knees to make your thighs as parallel to the floor as possible. Your chest will lean slightly forward; try to keep about a 90 degree angle between your torso and thighs. Keep the thighs parallel to each other and hold for as long as you can – at least two minutes. This is a challenging pose that, as you hold it for longer, causes your heart to beat faster, which increases blood flow through the skin and causes it to sweat out impurities faster. Remember to breathe deep throughout the pose!</p>

<p>Start out sitting on the floor with your legs extended. Shift your weight to the right and swing your legs to the left so both lets are on the floor next to your left hip. On an exhale, twist your torso gently to the right- tuck your left hand under your right knee, and your right hand should be on the floor behind you. Turn your head and look over your right shoulder – breathe deep, and with each exhale, deepen the twist. Release on an exhale! (Twists are especially great for increasing circulation to the face and brain, great for improving the health of the face’s skin).</p>
